Looking Back:
We have been working with Number Sense in Math and challenging each other to problem solve and find patterns and relationships. In Science we are learning about Trees and Forests: the difference between deciduous and coniferous trees, the parts of a tree and the different layers in a forest. During our field trip on Wednesday, we used different lenses (dog walker, photography, real estate developer, environmentalist, city planner, etc) to discuss the pros and cons of the natural Bowmont Park and the manufactured Birth Forest. In Humanities we have been studying the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and how the four pillars of democracy live within it. We have been working on researching and writing skits on one of the seven categories of rights: Fundamental Freedoms, Democratic Rights, Equality Rights, Legal Rights, Mobility Rights, Official Language Rights, Collective Rights (Minority Language Education Rights, Aboriginal Rights).
Looking Forward:
Next week in Math we will begin working with numbers related to our world's population, incorporating place value and percent. In Science we will be discussing human impact on our forests.
In Humanities students will be presenting their Charter Skits for the class to guess which category they researched.
Monday, October 1st is Orange Shirt Day. Please wear an orange shirt if you have one.
Wed/Thurs October 10/11, 2018 - Short Humanities quiz on the Charter
Friday, September 28, 2018
Our field trip to Bowmont Park and Birth Forest Field Trip on Wednesday was a beautiful day and a great learning experience! We learned about the evolution of both the natural and manufactured areas and the plants, animals and other organisms that exist in both.

We Have A Winner!
The grade 6 team has chosen to use "Blogger" as the main source of information and communication this year. Please bookmark this page for quick access to life in 6-1 and 6-2.
We will still be using PowerSchool to communicate Assignments and Assessment updates and more information on accessing this will be coming shortly.
This is the location we will add important dates and notes about daily life in grade six.
Thank you to those who volunteered their time with us yesterday and joined us for a rare day of sunshine at Bowmont Park and The Birthplace Forest. Those who still have not paid their $4.50 can bring cash or cheque in to their homeroom teachers.
Tomorrow is the Terry Fox Run, Friday September 28 and will be in conjunction with Eric Harvie and Tuscany Schools. Students are encouraged to wear warm layers, bring a water bottle and a 'Toonie for Terry.'
