Looking Back:

The YMCA visited all Grade 6's to inform everyone that every student in Grade 6 is eligible for a FREE membership to the YMCA from now until August 31st, 2019.

Math: 

• Equivalent Ratios
• Connecting Ratios to world population information 
• Ratio word problems and real life connections

Science: 

• Finishing Food Webs and Energy Pyramids
• Photosynthesis
• Transpiration

Humanities:

• Presentation of Greek Trading Cards
• Newspaper Article Writing, moving past the lead and into the body
• Vocabulary Card catch-up.  Students should have: Ancient, BCE/CE, tyrant, city-state, slave, metic, citizen, class system

Health:

• Stress - causes, physical, mental and emotional symptoms, coping mechanisms (healthy and unhealthy), preparing to be able to cope with stress in a healthy way
• Resilience - what is it and how to build

CTF: 

• Foods; Safety and sanitation when preparing, storing and consuming food
• Leadership; Qualities of a Leader, Challenge-by-Choice, Circle-up

Looking Forward:

Math: 

• Fractions, Decimals, Percent

Science:

• Trees of Alberta
• Classifying leaves with a Dichotomous Key
• Tree cookies

Humanities:

• Newspaper, backing up information with details and incorporating meaningful quotes
• Vocabulary: Agora, Assembly, Pnyx, Bouleuterion, Tholos, Longitude, Latitude, Scale
• Ancient Athenian Government and Social Structures

Key Dates and Reminders:

• Monday, October 29th - Math Ratio word problems due
• Wednesday, October 31st - Halloween Dance (periods 5 and 6) 
• Costumes should be appropriate for school, no masks and no weapons
• Food Drive is underway at TMC. Please send/bring any non-perishables food items you are able to for those in our city who are unable to afford to eat
• Please help us support students in eating healthy lunches and snacks and not bringing large amounts of candy and chocolate to school after trick-or-treating.
