Looking Back:

Math:

  • Fraction, Decimal, Percent conversion review

Science:
  • Properties of Air

  • Aerodynamics in Sport
Health: 
  • Perseverance, decisions in the face of adversity
Humanities:
  • Vocabulary Cards: Iroquois/ Haudenosaunee, Consensus, Confederacy, Longhouse
  • Circle and Retelling of the Hiawatha legend that explains the beginnings of the Iroquois Confederacy and the Great Law of Peace
  • Introduction to novel study book,  Children of the Longhouse, by Joseph Bruchac
  • Students created beautiful water colour art to show the symbolic elements of "Tree of Peace"
  • The secret word is MOOCSt
  • Students were asked to include "next steps" after writing about an area of challenge in their home journals from now on.  For example, if their challenge was focussing during group work, they may include a possible solution or strategy to use if facing the same challenge again.



French: 

  • Food vocabulary and practicing pronunciation to gain confidence in speaking aloud.

Looking Forward:

Math:

  • Graphing
  • Word problems with fractions, decimals and percent
Science:
  • Air and Aerodynamics Vocabulary
  • Creating aerodynamics in sport
Humanities: 
  • Continue with proofreading and editing marks

  • Class novel study, Children of the Longhouse.   Students will read along and create images or symbols and "1$" sentences to summarize key points from each chapter. 
  • Vocabulary : Clan, Clan Mother, Chief/Hoyaneh, The Great Law of Peace, Wampum

French: 
  • Continuation with practicing oral language through games 
  • Les étudiants vont apprendre et joué à un jeu, "Ding-Dong", "As-tu commande une pizza?"

CTF
This is the final round of CTF, students will have an opportunity to revisit two of their chosen modules.  More information is forthcoming.

  • Tuesday, Jan 22 - Branton late French immersion presentation
  • Thursday, Jan 31 - Field trip to COP - We still need 5 volunteers!
  • Thursday, Jan 31 - Report cards home
  • Friday, Feb 1 - No school
  • Basketball tryouts are underway
  • Looking for yoga mats! If you have any at home you will never use, we would love to take them off your hands!
  • Please make sure you are checking PowerSchool for updated assessment
  • Just Dance club - Wednesdays - 2nd half of lunch
  • Last rotation of CTF ends Tuesday. Jan 28 is the start of our next round.
