Saturday, May 4th

Looking Back: 

Math:
- Computation practice (adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing multi-digit numbers with decimals)
- Graphing (best graph type to use for data type)
- Discrete and continuous data

Humanities:
- Students have completed most of the writing 'Centres'  on each of the 5 elements
- One-on-one assessment of Writing.
- The city is coming along nicely and the sky-train is in place
- Inventory and organization of work that may or may not have been handed in throughout March and April

Science:
- Ongoing moon phases presentations
- Pale Blue Dot
- The Universe, galaxies, solar system, planets
- Planets art and information
- Sundials
- True North/Magnetic North
- Planets with moons
- Viewing the sun safely
- Movement of planets, moon, stars, and sun in space

Looking Forward:

Math:
- probability
- data
- test on factors, multiples, integers, BEDMAS, algebra

Humanities:
- Finishing the build or "Boxton"
- Debating an issue that has been put forward to the Boxton 'City Council' as a 'Bill'.  Students will sit with their 'Advisory Committee' to help decide if the 'Bill' should indeed become 'Law'
- Continue editing work and preparations for Wednesday's Writing PAT (LA Part A)
- News Paper article review with silly articles

Science:
- Constellations
- April 26th, 27th, 28th, 29th, 30th and May 1st and 2nd Moon Phase projects due

Important Reminders:
  • Please check PowerSchool for recently added Math and Science assessments
  • Monday, May 6th - Math test
  • Wednesdays at lunch - TMC GSA - room 224
  • Wednesdays at lunch - Horse club - room 201
  • Wednesday, May 8 - ELA PAT Part A Written portion; Narrative picture prompt and Newspaper article based on info provided.  This is approximately 3 hours long (9am-12noon), so get lots of rest, and bring a healthy, silent, snack.
  • May 16th - evening Celebration of Learning from 5pm - 7pm
  • May 17th - PD Day (No school for students)
  • May 20th - Victoria Day (No school)
  • May 22nd and 23rd - Annie Performance (22nd daytime performances, 23- evening performances)
  • May 24th - Art in the Park event morning
  • May 28th for 6-2, and May 30th for 6-1 - Field trip to Blackfoot Crossing (8am-4:30pm). We will be sending paperwork home this week looking for two-three Volunteers per class. *Note, the hours of this trip are outside the regular school day. We are taking fancy coach busses equipped with bathrooms and a DVD screen, as the trip is 1.5 hours each way. We plan to watch The Giver or the City of Ember to compliment our dystopian novel study.  The movies are rated PG13 and PG so please let me know if you have any concerns. Any parents interested in volunteering, please let me know.  
  • June 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17 - PATs. These are all multiple choice.
